Creating concert programs is a huge task. Any band director knows that finding a theme and selecting pieces that fit the theme and work well together is hard. If you want to add extra-musical elements to the show the challenge is often even greater.
The Loft Creative Studio at Ion Concert Media has set out to make that job easier for band directors everywhere.
The studio has just announced a new 20- or 50-minute concert program titled "Toon Tunes: A Journey Through Music And Animation From 1928 To Today" that will be available starting in January 2027. The program will include music from famous cartoons synchronized with the original video, all presented in a fun and educational format that tells the history of animation.
In addition to the videos and sound effects, the show package will also include a professional narration track with its own synchronized video to guide the audience through the development of cartoon animation from "Steamboat Willie" to modern 3D animations.
As an extra bonus, ensembles that purchase the package will also receive a full marketing package that includes program and poster blanks, pre-designed social media posts, and branded graphics. The objective is to provide the assets necessary to deliver a professional marketing effort for your show with consistent branding throughout the production.
Ion CEO and project lead Scott Winters says this fully curated program has been in development for several years.
"We often get requests from directors for a list of film/score pairings that work together as a concert theme," he said. "We recognized an opportunity to take that idea a few steps further by creating a fully curated multimedia show that is both fun and educational."
Winters said he hopes to use fully curated programs like "Toon Tunes" to help ensembles improve the production value of their shows. "I was a band director at one point in my career. I understand the need to stay focussed on getting the music right. There is not much time to worry about the extra-musical aspects of the show. We hope a product like "Toon Tunes" can be a full concert plug-and-play solution."
